Another type of scholarship that can be availed are those offered by companies or organizations. One such organizations is the KFC Colonel's Scholars under the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation.

The KFC Scholarship program aims to give financial aid to underprivileged but deserving graduating high-school students to support their college education. Every year, there are 75 plus students awarded the scholarship after successfully passing a series of evaluations.

Application for the KFC Scholarship 2013 batch starts from December 1, 2011 until February 8, 2013. During this duration, eligible applicants will submit all requirements needed for assessment so that they will be short listed as semifinalists. The semifinalists will then be required to submit additional documents for review by an independent board. The selected scholars will be able to enroll at a college or university with a bachelor's degree of their choice. A scholar will receive up to $20,000 to cover the tuition and other school fees, books and board and lodging, for over four years to complete the bachelor's degree.

Eligibility for the KFC Scholarship are as follows:

a high-school graduate in the current academic year, between December 1, 2011 to August 31, 2013

has a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75

plans to pursue a bachelor's degree from any public college or university provided it is within the state of legal residence

a US permanent resident or citizen

must demonstrate the need for financial assistance

A scholar also needs to do his or her part in keeping the scholarship. The scholar must be a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and has to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. At the beginning in his or her second year in college, the scholar needs to display his or her enterprising skill by working at an average of 10 hours per week in an approved position by the foundation.
