The KFC Colonel's scholars is open to all graduating high-school seniors who wants to go to college but is financially unable. Candidates who qualify will be given free tuition, board and lodging, books and other fees required by the college or university. For a candidate to be eligible, he or she has to be a graduating high-school student within the academic year, with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75, wants to take up a bachelor's degree course in any college or university in his or her state of residence, is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and is in need of financial assistance.
Interested students for the KFC Scholarship will have to go to the kfcscholars.org website and register. Once registered, the candidate can log in and apply for the scholarship. There will be a series of questions that the candidate will answer to determine his or her eligibility. If the candidate is found eligible, he or she needs to submit a series of requirements, which has to be completed within a specific duration (usually around 10 weeks). The candidates will then be reviewed and those who pass as semifinalists will be informed through email and will be asked to submit additional documents. Once the semifinalist's documents are received, an independent review committee will assess and select the successful candidates for the scholarship.
Each year, the KFC Scholarship program helps around 75 students to achieve their dream of attaining a higher education. The foundation gives out up to $5,000 per academic year, amounting to $20,000 per scholar to finance his or her bachelor's degree program.
In order to keep the scholarship, the student has to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 and should carry a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. The foundation also has program staff and mentors who will help the scholars should they need assistance.
